Our Philosophy & What We Teach

Gilliland Martial Arts – GMA

What We Can Do For You

At GMA we offer our members the ability to learn self-defence and gain greater level of heath and athleticism, while giving them a better quality of life and having FUN in the process!  We do this in a community atmosphere by teaching the concepts and philosophies of various martial art disciplines, some well-known and others more hidden from mainstream culture. We offer classes for juniors aged 7 – 14 years and adults from 15 years old.Classes are taught by Master Instructor Keith Gilliland and his team of Instructors.Keith has dedicated over five decades of training , learning and developing Martial Arts.

How We Do It

One of the keys to our program is the balance between traditional arts and modern training methods. We pride ourselves on providing an atmosphere that promotes personal development through martial arts cross-training which is effective, but also helps the student gain greater range of movement, and develop attributes making them more athletic. This leads to a higher level of skill as well as promoting long term habits for a heathy lifestyle.Classes for juniors age 7 – 14 years, for more info click here .Adult classes from 15 years up, for more info click here

Physical Development

Being that we are a JKD Concept school, we have a uniquely blended curriculum which covers many aspects of self-defence, including such areas as strength & conditioning, Kickboxing, clinch & takedown, trapping, grappling, and weaponry. We teach concepts from many arts such as Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wing Chun, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Silat, Panantukan, Kali & Doce Pares…   you may not have heard of some of these arts but in time you’ll learn the wide variety of incredible things they have to improve your life.

Mindset Development

Here at GMA we believe that the physical training is truly a vehicle for mindset developments. We are constantly presented with new challenges, and problems to solve, barriers to our goals that are both physical and mental in nature. Our thinking process & guiding philosophies are paramount to our mental health and personal growth. These help a student to grow as a person, as a leader, grow as a member of the group, become a good training partner to others, and help us define a responsible use of the things we are taught.  We take the time to actively teach these skills as part of our curriculum.

The Culture of GMA

We believe in training for longevity.  With a strong emphasis on collaborative training, we work to build each other up as training partners, not opponents. This is a core principle of our culture & school. Train safely, working to bring the best out of each other and reach our goals.

The time to change your life is now… act now!
